Order of the Silver Lantern
Type: Knightly Order (Religious-Military)
Alignment: Antagonist (Falcon-aligned)
Base: Thalas'Miriel (garrison and smithy)
Founded: Unknown
Current Status: Active — enforcing Falcon authority in Thalas'Miriel; holding ToooAh in custody (S36 cliffhanger)
Current Status (Session 36)
- Actively enforcing High Luminary Aelthir Vaelorian's authority in Thalas'Miriel
- Arrested ToooAh at the Cathedral of Gentle Redemption morning service (S36); currently holding her in the garrison
- Knights mobilising per Vaelorian's call to arms during S36 sermon
- Garrison smithy stocked with magic weapons (three longswords viewed by Lady Odonia of Galantri, S36)
- Commander unknown; operating under cathedral authority
Core Information
Purpose: Military arm of the Cathedral of Gentle Redemption; responsible for protecting the cathedral, enforcing its authority, and projecting military power from Thalas'Miriel
Alignment: Politically aligned with the Falcon faction via High Luminary Aelthir Vaelorian; may not represent all members' personal convictions (the young blonde monk's dissatisfaction with Vaelorian's politics suggests dissent exists within the broader cathedral community)
Symbol: Lantern crest (on armour)
Uniform: Blue plate armour with lantern crest
Base: Garrison within Thalas'Miriel, adjacent to or near the Cathedral of Gentle Redemption; includes a smithy
Relationship to Cathedral: Operates under the authority of High Luminary Aelthir Vaelorian; the Order's military capability is an extension of the cathedral's political power
History & Development
Founding: Unknown. The lantern crest and name suggest a long-standing connection to the Cathedral of Gentle Redemption and its dedication to Ilmater. Extent of history within Thalas'Miriel and across Odessia unknown.
Pre-Session 36: Order presumably existed as cathedral guardians and town enforcers throughout Thalas'Miriel's history. Confirmed Falcon-aligned by association with the cathedral (Session 28 briefing from Ser Silvar Glinnan).
Session 36: First direct encounter with the party. Guards present at the cathedral morning service. Arrested ToooAh after she was caught attempting to steal from the collection basket (Sleight of Hand 12, Deception 9). Escorted her to the garrison — session cliffhanger. Lady Odonia of Galantri visited the smithy separately and examined three magic longswords.
