Description
The Cathedral of Gentle Redemption is the defining structure of Thalas'Miriel and its primary seat of power, dedicated to Ilmater — old god of healing, suffering, and endurance. A silver-white lantern atop its tower is visible from the forest road long before the town itself comes into view. Home of the Dawn Choir and presided over by High Luminary Aelthir Vaelorian, it functions as both religious centre and de facto seat of government for the town. Despite its philosophy of mercy and gentle redemption, it is actively driving the Falcon faction's political agenda in the north.
Geography
Situated at the heart of Thalas'Miriel within the forest of Mirel'thiel. Elven architecture. Silver-white lantern tower is the tallest structure visible from the approach road. Cathedral grounds include at minimum the main worship hall and a dais used for ceremonies and services.
Key Features
- Great silver-white lantern — atop the main tower; landmark visible from the forest road approaching town
- Main worship hall — congregation seating; collection basket passed during services; guards present
- Dais — raised platform used by clergy during services; High Luminary Aelthir Vaelorian, Sister Elowen Maris, and Canon Sylvaris Thalaniel stood here S36
- Sacred Archives — housed within the cathedral; under the keeping of Canon Sylvaris Thalaniel; contents unknown
- Dawn Choir — religious order based here, led by Vaelorian
- Falcon banners — displayed alongside religious iconography; allegiance is overt
Population
Cathedral clergy, Dawn Choir members, and lay worshippers from Thalas'Miriel and surrounding area. Congregation is primarily elven. At least one young human monk (blonde, unnamed) holds a position here and appeared unhappy with Vaelorian's political direction.
Leadership
- Head: High Luminary Aelthir Vaelorian — 482-year-old elf; Voice of the Dawn Choir; controls both religious and political authority
- Dais figure: Sister Elowen Maris — role and allegiance unknown
- Keeper of Sacred Archives: Canon Sylvaris Thalaniel — allegiance unknown
- Guest preacher (S36): Lord Pompaduke the Third ("Brother Algrim") — green Bane aura observed from his lute during service
History
Long-established cathedral dedicated to Ilmater — an old god associated with healing, endurance, and the acceptance of suffering. The "Gentle Redemption" philosophy suggests a theology of mercy and forgiveness. The reasons this institution came to support the Flowers rebellion remain unknown; the contradiction between its stated values and political militancy has not been explained.
Current Situation
Under High Luminary Aelthir Vaelorian's leadership, the cathedral is actively mobilising Thalas'Miriel's knights and organising a delegation to Neverwinter to persuade Duke Alaric Thorne to declare for the Falcon faction. This delegation represents a direct counter to the party's Rally the North mission and must be stopped before it departs.
ToooAh was arrested here in S36 for attempting to steal from the collection basket, and was escorted to the Order of the Silver Lantern garrison — session cliffhanger.
Lady Odonia of Galantri's Primeval Awareness detected two creature types from the standard list present near the cathedral during the service. Their identities are unknown.
Open questions:
- What two creature types are present near/in the cathedral?
- What is Lord Pompaduke the Third's true role here as "Brother Algrim"?
- Are Sister Elowen Maris and Canon Sylvaris Thalaniel genuine Falcon supporters or potential allies?
- What do the Sacred Archives contain?
- Why does a mercy-focused religious institution support armed rebellion?

Notes
- The contradiction between Ilmater worship (healing, endurance, mercy) and active political militancy is unexplained and may be significant
- Lord Pompaduke the Third's "Brother Algrim" identity here is deeply suspicious — his Bane aura and relationship with Vaelorian are unresolved mysteries
- Party has not been identified as enemies; cover intact as of S36 end
- Sacred Archives may hold historically or politically significant material — ToooAh had expressed intent to request access before her arrest
